One of the accidental victims of COVID-19 in the last year has been the impact on “community” in most churches. By community, we don’t mean the act of meeting in person weekly. In the biblical sense, community is a group of people who commit to growing together in an accountable, transparent, and authentic way.

One example of this type of community is the family that you choose to belong to; a group of people who love and serve one another.

The members of these communities recognize their faults and the faults in others. They also understand their deep need for Christ. Communities are also places where we can see God moving in other people’s lives which, in turn, serves as an encouragement to us.

While many houses of worship had to permanently close their doors during the pandemic, the churches that were able to thrive did so because they had an active and engaged network of small groups!

When we understand what these transformative communities look like and put their principles into practice, our personal and corporate lives can vastly improve. This is an important topic that we will spend the next couple of months unpacking. Buckle up for this exciting journey as we explore, understand, and build a transformative community at Miami Temple!
